Have you ever set at your dining room table and flipped through old images, as you heard stories about generations before you? It’s one of my favorite things to do, as I learn more about my family history and where I came from.
This lifestyle family session with my grandparents is one I’ll never forget. We spent the evening in their garden, which is hands down their favorite place to be. As we wandered through the rows of vegetables, we laughed and talked while checking on the cucumbers and pointing out all the things they’ve grown. At one point I had to remind them we didn’t have time to pick all the okra before the sun went down. We had photos to take! It felt so natural to capture them there, in the place that feels most like home to them. That’s why I love lifestyle family photography so much, it tells the story of who they are.
My grandparents have such a sweet story. Both of them married later in life after losing their first spouses, and the love they share now is something truly special. It’s gentle, kind, and steady. They are always serving one another in quiet ways. It shows in how they laugh together, how they look at each other, and how they work side by side. They can outwork just about anyone, but what stands out most is how deeply they care for one another. Photographing that kind of love was such a gift.
I knew their garden was the perfect backdrop because it says so much about who they are. It’s a place of growth, joy, and connection. These photos tell the story of their love and the legacy they are building for our family. I know they’ll be treasured for generations.
If you’ve ever thought about doing something like this for your parents or grandparents, now is the time. Let’s capture them in the places they love, so their story can be remembered forever too.
