A Meaningful Wedding at The Hill and Moor in Starkville

Bride and Groom with their dog at their wedding in Starkville, MS at The Hill and Moor.

I love every wedding day I get to be a part of (well, almost… ha). But every now and then, a wedding comes along that sticks with you long after it’s over. The Barrette wedding at The Hill and Moor in Starkville was one of those days.

From the moment Hannah reached out, I had a feeling this wedding would be special.

Hannah and I graduated from high school together in Starkville, Mississippi, and somehow it felt fitting that her wedding would be the first one I photographed after moving back home nearly ten years later. The night I received her Instagram message, I genuinely squealed with excitement. I had been following along as she and Ryan shared their relationship online, cheering them on from afar, and I couldn’t wait to celebrate alongside them as they finally said “I do.”

From their engagement session to their wedding day, photographing these two felt effortless. Their love for one another was so evident in every interaction. More than once, I found myself telling them to simply stay in the moment because what was unfolding naturally was far more meaningful than any pose I could have given them.

A Beautiful Wedding Day in Starkville, Mississippi

I always say I can tell how a wedding day is going to unfold within the first ten minutes of arriving, and any wedding vendor will tell you how true that is. The moment I arrived at The Hill and Moor, there was a sense of peace that settled over the entire day. The sun filtered through soft white clouds, creating the dreamiest light. The girls were relaxing upstairs, the guys were hanging out in the groom’s suite, and Quinn, their sweet pup, was happily making rounds between both groups as if he owned the venue. Everything felt calm. Joyful. Anticipatory. The entire venue looked like something straight out of Wonderland, with thoughtful details tucked into every corner.

Getting Ready with Family, Friends, and Quinn

The day began by photographing all of the beautiful details Hannah and Ryan had spent months planning. From there, we officially broke in the dance floor with the bridesmaids, and of course Quinn joined in on the fun. The day flowed seamlessly from one moment to the next. We started portraits with the bridesmaids before moving on to the groomsmen, stopping in between for one of the sweetest moments of the day, Hannah’s first look with her dad.

Private Vows and a Meaningful First Touch

Ryan and Hannah chose not to see each other before the ceremony. Instead, they opted for something that ended up being one of my favorite moments of the entire day.

Before the ceremony began, they shared a private first touch around a corner where they could not see one another. Standing just feet apart, they exchanged personal vows and spent a few quiet moments together soaking in everything the day meant before walking down the aisle. It was intimate, emotional, and such a beautiful reminder that the wedding day is ultimately about the marriage they were about to begin together.

A Heartfelt Ceremony at The Hill and Moor

Their ceremony was filled with intentional moments and meaningful traditions. Surrounded by family and friends, Ryan and Hannah exchanged vows, shared rings, planted a tree together, and promised forever to one another. Every glance they exchanged seemed to communicate the same thing. They were always meant to find each other. As they shared their first kiss as husband and wife, there was not a single person there who was not smiling.

Wedding Portraits Around The Hill and Moor

After the ceremony, the newlyweds took a few moments to themselves while everything sank in. As they turned the corner away from their guests, I quietly documented the joy and excitement written all over their faces.

No posing necessary. Those are often my favorite photographs, the ones where couples forget the camera exists and simply enjoy being married.

From there, we moved into family portraits and bridal party photos before exploring the stunning grounds of The Hill and Moor for portraits of the newlyweds. Between the venue’s breathtaking scenery and the addition of Quinn joining us, creating beautiful images felt effortless.

Celebrating the New Mr. and Mrs. Barrette

Before long, it was time for the reception. Ryan and Hannah were introduced as Mr. and Mrs. Barrette before sharing their first dance as husband and wife. The evening continued with cake cutting, visiting with guests, and dancing the night away. Style Entertainment kept the dance floor packed all evening, and it quickly became clear that nobody was ready for the celebration to end.

A Private Last Dance and Bubble Send Off

As the evening came to a close, guests gathered outside while Ryan and Hannah shared one final private dance together. I will be honest, this may be one of my favorite parts of any wedding day. After spending an entire day surrounded by people, it is often the first quiet moment a couple gets to share together as newlyweds. When the song ended, they ran through a sea of bubbles and made their grand exit. Or at least they tried to. A few moments later, they returned and promptly rejoined their guests on the dance floor to keep the celebration going. And honestly, it felt perfectly fitting for a couple who clearly loved every second of their wedding day.

A Starkville Wedding I’ll Never Forget
