Bride and Groom during wedding ceremony in Starkville, MS

There are some wedding days that feel long in the best possible way, and then there are wedding days that seem to pass in the blink of an eye. Zach and Sarah’s wedding at The Hewlett Barn in Starkville, Mississippi somehow felt like both. After eight hours of wedding photography coverage, I remember packing up at the end of the night thinking about how full, joyful, and meaningful the day had been. At the same time, it felt like I had just arrived.

That’s a rarity for me as a Starkville wedding photographer.

Zach and Sarah made the entire day easy in all the best ways. In their review, they shared, “She truly felt more like a friend than just a photographer by the end of the day.” Truthfully, I felt the exact same way. We spent the day laughing, chatting, and documenting so many meaningful moments that I know they’ll treasure for years to come. Their wedding day was full without feeling rushed, peaceful without feeling slow. It had very little to do with the timeline and everything to do with who they are as people.

Getting Ready at Sarah’s Childhood Home in Starkville

The day began at Sarah’s childhood home in Starkville, Mississippi. It was there that we started documenting all of the thoughtful details that made the day uniquely theirs. Sarah and her bridesmaids spent the morning getting ready together in the living room, wearing the prettiest hydrangea pajamas I’ve ever seen.

As the excitement of the day began to build, Sarah stepped into her wedding dress, adjusted her veil, and stood on the same grand staircase she had run up and down countless times growing up. Only this time, she was standing there as a bride, just moments away from saying “I do.”

A First Look at The Hewlett Barn in Starkville, Mississppi

After getting ready, we made the short drive to The Hewlett Barn, one of Starkville’s most beautiful wedding venues. I’ve photographed weddings at The Hewlett Barn several times, and every visit reminds me why couples love it so much. Between the beautiful property, open views, and timeless charm, it’s a stunning backdrop for a Mississippi wedding day.

With clear blue skies overhead, we headed straight to the front of the venue, where the tree-lined views created the perfect setting for Zach and Sarah’s first look. They chose to share that private moment together before the ceremony, and it was such a sweet way to slow down and soak in everything the day represented.

Afterward, we moved into bridal party portraits and couples portraits before completing family photos. One of the biggest benefits of a first look is being able to finish many of your formal portraits before the ceremony, allowing you to spend more time celebrating with your guests afterward.

Capturing Wedding Day Details Before the Ceremony

Once family portraits were complete, we headed inside to capture reception details and enjoy a few quiet moments before the ceremony began.

These slower moments before guests arrive are always some of my favorites. They give couples a chance to breathe, take everything in, and prepare for the moments they’ve been anticipating for months.

Celebrating with Family and Friends

After the ceremony, we finished a handful of sunset portraits before joining guests inside for the reception. The evening was filled with heartfelt conversations, a sweet first dance, cake cutting, and plenty of celebrating with family and friends.

Before we knew it, it was time for the send-off, including some of Zach’s favorite photos of the entire day featuring the getaway car.

A Wedding Day I’ll Never Forget

Some wedding days simply stick with you long after they’re over, and this was one of them. If I could relive Zach and Sarah’s wedding day ten times over, I never would have grown tired of it.

They were such a joy to celebrate, and the way they care for one another was evident in every moment. It was an honor to document their wedding at The Hewlett Barn, and I’m so grateful I got to be part of such a meaningful day.
